REPO Dev Asks Modders To Mind The Server Costs

Swedish indie game developer, semiwork, is asking modders to be mindful of server costs while moding their breakout 6-player romp, REPO. Frankly, it’s not a big ask.

In a Q&A video, the team was asked about their stance on mods, which was positive, but tacked on that they’d appreciate it if modders would optimize the “amount of server traffic they send” as this directly affects server costs, which while the game is a hit, the team is still small and not able to beef up servers.

“We encourage mods. It’s so fun to see people add their own personality to our game. And while on this topic, we want to encourage all mod makers to please optimize the amount of server traffic they send to avoid any skyrocketing server costs. That would mean a lot to us.”

This has been seen as a way to mitigate mods that increase player count, which obviously does affect a game’s server costs. Previously, Content Warning was forced to put a kibosh on mods that sought to increase the lobby size, so it wouldn’t be too shocking if REPO is following suit.

What do you think? Is it fair to encourage modders not increase lobby size? Let us know below!
