Dwarf-based colony simulator, Dwarf Fortress, has surpassed a million units sold on Steam. Considering the game surpassed nearly half a million in just two months after launch back in 2022, it was bound to reach the milestone sooner or later.
Taking to Bluesky, publisher Kitfox Games announced the news, declaring each copy “brings countless dwarves, fortresses, and unique worlds to life.”
This comes in light of a PC Gamer interview with Bay 12 Games’ Tarn Adams just last year following the game hitting 800,000 sales. At the time, he didn’t actually think the game would reach that milestone, but sure enough, April 2025 saw the milestone passed.
“I mean, I didn’t actually think of [hitting a million sales]. Because you’re like, when is that going to happen?”
The game is still in active development, though, with more content to come.
