DOOM: The Dark Ages is having an odd time right now as it debuts with the lowest Steam player count of the series. Compared to its precursor, it’s surely a disappointment.
Hopping onto SteamDB, we can see DOOM: The Dark Ages sits at around 31K all-time peak players, which traditionally, with id Software’s games, on Steam, tending to peak on the day of release, this is pretty lackluster. In comparison, 2016’s DOOM sits on a peak of 44.2K. Meanwhile, Eternal demolishes both standing proud at 104.8K all-time peak players.
Of course, as PCGamesN notes, this isn’t too shocking, as the game was released via Game Pass, which PC players can take advantage of through the launcher, which would cut out Steam from the equation. Really, odds are it probably has a lot of players enjoying the medieval-themed demon slaying romp beyond just Steam.
